I'm always making things. Early investigations included: Skateboard ramps, GI Joe Forts, movies, skits, music. Professionally, I started at age 14 as a helper to a local builder, as a laborer at a small farm and then in high school as a punch-out man for a general contractor. I studied Architecture, Art and Design at the University of Maryland College Park. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts in 1998 with a focus on sculpture and 3-D design. I traveled to New Bedford, Massachusetts, where I received a Master of Fine Arts in Artisanry from the Furniture Department of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Before and after my studies in Massachusetts, I apprenticed with a furnituremaker, John Calvin, in Columbia, MD. I'm an artist, designer, mold maker, furnituremaker, concrete artisan and curious guy. I work in all materials so that I can build what is required. In 2001 I created LUKE WORKS, a design and build firm that creates furniture, precision casework and concrete elements. Over the years I've taught sculpture, drawing and design at UMass Dartmouth, CCBC, the Baltimore School for the Arts, Penland, Arrowmont and Peters Valley. I've also led visits to my studio with university and high school students and design firms. I live with my family in Baltimore City.
